Sizing Generator Mounts by kVA

The plate mount is the workhorse of the diesel generator market: a compact, flanged, compression-loaded isolator that costs a fraction of a full captive mount and installs in minutes. The rubber body is bonded between a base flange and a central threaded stud, so the mount bolts through the genset skid rail and sits directly on the plinth or trailer bed. Because generator sets are supplied as standard packages, plate mounts are conventionally selected against the kVA rating of the set rather than by calculating load per corner from first principles. In practice the three sizes in the BPLM2 series cover the bulk of the market: BPLM270 for smaller sets, BPLM275 through the mid range, and BPLM2100 for larger units where both static weight and starting shock climb sharply. The mount is loaded in compression, which gives high shock damping and good resistance to the impulse loading generated when a diesel engine fires and when the alternator takes a sudden block load. It is a compression-only design, so where the set will be transported, craned frequently or subjected to lateral shock, a captive bell mount is the better specification.
